The renowned TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has once again taken aim at the Green Party and its leader, Zack Polanski, this time over the party's stance on decriminalizing drug use. In a recent newspaper column, Clarkson expressed his astonishment at Polanski's advocacy for drug legalization, stating, 'I’m staggered, really, to hear that Green Party fella with the bad teeth and silly walk saying he wants to legalise it.'
Polanski, who has been vocal about reforming Britain's drug laws, recently appeared on the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg show, advocating for a 'public health approach' to drug use. He argued that individuals with a 'problematic relationship with drugs' should seek help from medical professionals. However, Clarkson took issue with this stance, questioning the message it sends to young people.
In his column, Clarkson delved into the changing preferences of Gen-Z, who are increasingly turning away from alcohol in favor of marijuana. As the owner of a pub and brewery, Clarkson has firsthand experience of the impact of these trends on the industry. He attributed the shift to health concerns and the cost of alcohol, suggesting that younger generations are finding marijuana more appealing due to its lower cost compared to pub visits.
However, Clarkson also acknowledged the risks associated with marijuana use, including the potential for mental health issues and the higher rate of violent crime linked to strong strains of cannabis in the United States. Despite these concerns, he found it surprising that Polanski, who has never partaken in drug use or alcohol, supports drug legalization.
This isn't the first time Clarkson has publicly ridiculed Polanski. In November, he referred to the Green Party leader as a 'snaggle-toothed vegan' over his party's tax policies. Clarkson's ongoing feud with Polanski has sparked discussions about the differing views on drug use and the role of political parties in shaping public opinion.
